Things We Can Do Now

Before getting into the American Tribunal, we should remember that there is much that may be done now, without the need for this proposed tribunal.

The ideas below may be put into action today, before the end of the Trump/MAGA era.

In some cases these ideas may be put into action simply through private choices without the need for any action by a court of government body.

Capture Documents

The Trump/MAGA administration is increasingly destroying, totally redacting, or hiding documents (either physically or via real or pseudo national security classifications [Remember Dick Cheney's "Treat As Classified" stamp?])

We can be sure that as time passes even more documents will be altered, destroyed, or hidden.

This makes it important to gather as much of this information as possible and put it into reliable archives.

For example, government websites and databases should be captured and preserved, FOIA and Privacy ACT requests should be made, and both the requests and responses (if any) archived.

Revocation of Professional Licenses

Many bad actors in the Trump/MAGA administration are lawyers or others who hold professional licenses.

Those licenses are subject to various State (and Federal) laws and rules regarding professional conduct.

Trump/MAGA lawyers, in the Justice Department, as judges, and elsewhere in the administration are all subject to these laws of professional conduct.

The bodies, typically at the State level, have the power to impose sanctions on professionals who violate their obligations. Those potential sanctions include the revocation of licenses to practice.

These bodies usually move very slowly and often tend to be excessively forgiving.

Social Engineering Style Remedies

Companies, and many in the Trump/MAGA universe, are strongly focused on, and sensitive to social media.

So go onto Trump/MAGA favoried social media (assuming you still have an account) and express yourself. (You will be forgiven by this author if you avoid Twitter/X, Facebook/Meta, or the seemingly misnomered Truth Social.)

One should take care to forestall one of the Trump/MAGA world's most favored weapons: the bringing of weak (or fantasy) defamation actions, often for completely unsupportable, huge claims of damage, often in billions of dollars:

• State only easily and objectively demonstrable facts with cited sources
• Make it clear that your observations and conclusions are opinions
• Avoid excessive stridency and ad hominem statements; attempt to use concise styles and forms, such as described in The Elements of Style by Strunk & White
• Do not engage in debates - With each round of "debate", your wisdom will be increasingly disregarded or belittled.

Local And Regional Government and Boards

A lesson can be learned from the Trump/MAGA era: Local boards and governmental bodies can have a lot of power.

We have seen it everywhere from library and school boards to county clerks: There are many things that a local body can do to promote, or to retard, Trump/MAGA initiatives or to affect (or "afflict") voting in elections.

We should strive to support and promote good, fair-minded, and reasonably progressive people to local government and local boards.

Private Remedies

Private actors - you, me, and companies - are reasonably free to take actions without waiting for judgments from a tribunal.

Ostracism

The ancient remedy of ostracism still works.

For example, private businesses can institute hiring policies that would deny employment to anyone who has held a position with ICE or CBP or has held an appointed political position in the Federal Executive branch during the Trump/MAGA era.

Private clubs and churches can take similar actions.

Boycotts

A boycott, in the words of Wikipedia, is "voluntary abstention from a product, person, organization, or country as an expression of protest."

At a bare minimum, people ought to stop buying Trump's products - Do you really want a cheap gold colored watch or phone bearing Trump's face? Do you want to spend a couple of Benjamins ($100USD notes) for a crypto "meme" coin that will probably be almost worthless within a year?

On a larger scale, we could make individual or group choices not to buy things from those who support the Trump/MAGA regime.
